Privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026
This policy covers House Rules, the budget app for Android, and this website, magnison.dev. I make both, under the name Magnison. House Rules is still being built, so this page will change as the app does; the date at the top shows when it last changed.
The short version
- Your budget stays on your phone.
- The app doesn't need an account.
- Neither the app nor this website tracks you: no analytics, no ads and no cookies.
The app
House Rules keeps your budget on your phone: your categories, purchases, bills and plans. It doesn't need an account, and I never see your budget. Android's automatic backup to Google Drive is turned off for House Rules, so your budget isn't copied there either.
The app uses the internet only for Shared Tabs, a feature for splitting costs with friends that isn't out yet. Shared Tabs sends your changes to the people you share a tab with, through a relay server. The changes are encrypted on your phone, and the relay can't read them.
The app has no third-party code for analytics, ads or crash reports. If you've let Android share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google Play may send me crash reports that don't identify you. That's a setting on your phone, not in the app.
This website
magnison.dev sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other websites.
The server keeps no record of visits. It keeps only error logs about the server itself.
Tips
Tips are paid through Stripe. You type your card details on Stripe's page, and your full card number never reaches me. Stripe shows me the amount, the name and email address you give it, and some details it uses to process and check the payment, such as your card's brand and last four digits, your country and postal code, and your IP address. It keeps records of payments as the law requires. Its privacy policy explains what it keeps:
If you tip monthly, you can cancel any time with the link in Stripe's receipt.
Testing the app early
To test the app before it's out, you join a Google Group. Google shows me the email address you join with, and Google Play uses the group to let you install the test version. You can leave the group any time.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling House Rules deletes everything it stored on your phone.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
